Stairclimbing Firefighter Fundraiser

Portsmouth, NH — The High-Hanover parking garage was full all day Saturday as shoppers and visitors strolled about the downtown.  This was good news for Rye call firefighter Sarah Jarvis, who spent three hours in the middle stairwell in full gear raising money for the 23rd annual Scott Firefighter Stairclimb at the Columbia Center. The event supports the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's fight against cancer.  Jarvis climbed up and down the five flights, stopping only to talk with people about the fundraiser, hoping for a donation to be placed in one of several firefighter boots.  Jarvis obtained City Council permission to use the parking garage and she was quick to allay any fears if people were concerned seeing her climbing with about 75 pounds of gear.  www.fundraising-ideas.org

Santa "Claws" Fundraiser

Salt Lake County, Utah — Salt Lake County Animal Services had “Santa Claws” on hand Saturday for a fundraising event. Sandy Nelson of Salt Lake County Animal Services said shelter workers donned the guise of Santa and his helpers, and the proceeds from the event will go toward the shelter’s needs.  “Santa Claws and the elf are actually our animal control officers,” she said. “So they are part of our staff. They asked if they could be Santa Claws and the elf, and they’re doing a great job.” Officials said the shelter can always use donations of dog and cat treats, pet food, blankets, and laundry detergent. They also accept monetary donations.  www.fundraising-ideas.org

Christmas Display to be Fundraiser for Local Cancer Patient

Wilmington, NC -- Mike and Shelley Melton normally deck the halls of their home near River Road at Christmas time. But this year, the house's festive ambiance is for a good cause. Until New Year's Day, the exterior of the home at 3623 Beatrice Street in Wilmington is aglow in the evenings with scores of lights and inflatable decorations, and the Meltons will be accepting donations from drivers-by to benefit Renae Greenough Garvey. The local woman is suffering with cancer and currently undergoing treatment.   There will also be cookies and hot chocolate for sale at the event, with all proceeds going to the Garvey family.  www.fundraising-ideas.org
