Cops on Top Fundraising Event Raises $35,000 for Special Olympics

Waynesville, NC — Officials say donations continue to come in for the fifth annual Cops on Top event, even after meeting their fundraising goal.  “Achieving our fundraising goal of $35,000 was not an easy feat, but with everyone’s outpouring of support it was possible,” Deputy Daniel Blagg said.  Haywood County law enforcement officers and firefighters climbed to the rooftop of the Waynesville Belk building on Friday and remained there around-the-clock for three days. Donations were collected on the ground and at the Waynesville Chick-fil-A.  The money raised will benefit the Special Olympics of North Carolina.  www.fundraising-ideas.org

"Day Out with Thomas" Fundraiser for Elgin County Railway Museum

St. Thomas, ON - For the last 12 years, the “Day Out with Thomas” has been the single largest fundraising event organized by the Elgin County Railway Museum.  But this year’s edition of the popular event will probably be its most important one yet.  While money collected during the annual fundraising has historically been used to support the museum’s operating budget, the head of the museum is hoping the event will attract enough people so that a portion of the proceeds can be used towards a project to fix a section of the building’s roof.  www.fundraising-ideas.org

Sherriff Dept. Deputy Cancer Survivor Hosts "CrossFit" Fundraising Event

Columbia, SC - Lt. Frieda Wyatt said it was a miracle her cancer went into remission.  The nearly 20-year Richland County Sheriff’s Department veteran, who serves on its fugitive task force, had been told she had stage IV B-cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and that it was not curable.  After successfully beating cancer, however, the exercise enthusiast and mother of four, along with the sheriff’s department and Carolina CrossFit, will play host to the “CrossFit for Cancer” fundraiser on Saturday for those who are still battling cancer.  All of the money raised during the event will be donated to the SCOA Cares foundation, a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to those undergoing cancer treatment, Wyatt said.  www.fundraising-ideas.org
