Easton, MA - Three years ago, when Mary Waldron was looking for a
fundraising event to bring together family and the community in memory of her
late husband, John, a friend suggested a Wiffle ball tournament. It was easy to organize, it was inclusive,
and it took less than a month to pull together the first annual John. A.
Waldron Wiffle Ball Tournament. “With Wiffle ball, I can pool together 10 bats
in the snap of a finger,” said Mary Waldron, who had been considering a more
involved event like a golf tournament. The event has
grown each year, 38 teams of at least 10 people each a week ago. The third
annual event, held July 26, drew almost 1,000 people to Campanelli Stadium to
watch, play or volunteer. It also raised $17,500 for the “Just Checking In”
Fund, named for a popular John Waldron expression. www.fundraising-ideas.org
