much for bake sales, one Havasu business owner is taking the word “fundraiser”
literally. Dean Baker, owner of Lake
Havasu Properties, is marrying his love for flying and love for service by
planning for a long hot air balloon flight that would raise money for HAVEN
Family Resource Center in Havasu. Baker
is asking community members to pledge a monetary amount for every mile flown
which will in turn be given to the local charity that serves victims of abuse,
domestic violence and sexual assault. He is asking for a minimum pledge of 25

West Lafayette, IN - When
Iris Goldfeder attended a fundraising event for the Lafayette YWCA Domestic
Violence Program this past July, she was moved beyond words - and into action -
as she listened to the stories of domestic abuse told by survivors. “This one particular speaker told of her
experiences, and it was very harrowing. My friend kind of laughed and said,
‘I’ve never seen you speechless.’ I was just so moved, and I knew I needed to
do something,” Goldfeder said. It was
that, “knowing,” that led to the upcoming Unmasking Domestic Violence – A

Kawartha Lakes, ON -. The annual Big
Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids Sake will take place at Bowlaway Lanes in
Lindsay and the organization is looking for teams of four to six people to
start collecting pledges to support mentoring programs in the city. This year’s event will feature a 1960s theme
and bowlers can dress in their grooviest costumes to win a pizza from Square
Boy Pizza. There is also the added option of collecting pledges online by
e-mailing friends and family. The top
fundraising team will win a free table for eight at Big Brothers Big Sisters’
dinner and auction in June. Individuals
that raise the most will qualify for one of the three top prizes: a 32-inch TV

Just About Kids Foundation will host its main fundraiser and premiere event of
the year, the fourth annual For the Love of Music, affectionately known as
FLOM. This is a singing competition
open to several Northeast Houston area school districts — Humble Independent
School District, New Caney ISD and Huffman ISD — as well as private and home
schools. The event features the finalists from tryouts
held earlier this year, as well as performances by former event finalists. There

Grand Island, NE
— Supporters of Hope Harbor helped turn
up the heat in support for the nonprofit devoted to improving the lives of
Grand Island’s homeless and near homeless population Saturday night. Hope Harbor held its third annual Serving Up Hope
fundraising event, with local chefs competing in the “Battle Chili Pepper.”
Organizers said about 470 people were expected to turn out for the event. Four area chefs competed for the title of
“Chili Pepper Champion” by serving “mild to wild” appetizers, with chili
peppers as the common ingredient. Attendees were able to sample the creations
of the local culinary experts while raising awareness and funds for the
