King and Queen of Hearts Fundraising Contest

Long Beach, CA - A new King and Queen of Hearts will be crowned in Long Beach this Saturday.  The charity event, King and Queen of Hearts Fundraising Contest, invites participants to introduce themselves to the community, then attendees will vote to crown a King and Queen. The winners will be announced on February 14.  "It is a honorary title bestowed upon the winners from the Imperial Court of Long Beach," organizers said. "They are members of the community who have a big 'heart' for Long Beach and the many non-profits within the community."  While one contestant is a drag queen, that is not a requirement to enter the contest. Contestants can be any member of the community who has a passion for Long Beach, organizers said.  www.fundraising-ideas.org

25 Men Who Can Cook Fundraiser and Competition

Ottumwa, IA — When the doors at Bridge View Center open on Saturday, food connoisseurs will have just two hours to sample all the culinary treats of 25 Men Who Can Cook.  One of the major fundraisers for the Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra, the fourth annual event combines a culinary competition with a time to get together with friends and neighbors.  “Since the first year, it’s been at Bridge View Center on a Saturday in January when it’s nice and cold. We’ve always been blessed with nice weather,” said coordinator Bob Morrissey. “The first two years we had about 300 people in attendance, but last year we had 550. It’s kind of the place to be, the thing to do in January.”  www.fundraising-ideas.org
