Antioch, IL - Daringly
testing their palate to choose the winner of the United Methodist Church of
Antioch’s Chili Cook-off last Saturday were more than 100 parishioners and
guests.
Each tried a scoop of 10
different chili recipes that included one made with venison meat, a gluten-free
chili and another that second-year contestant Mike Lapke of Antioch called “not
your ordinary chili,” that was made with pumpkin bits.
Folks who attended the event, which is a
fundraiser for the reconditioning of the church’s Fellowship Hall, also got to
bid on a silent auction with themed baskets filled with gift certificates and
items such as basketballs, toys and pasta jars. All the items were donated by
local area businesses. Other items for sale were donated by the church’s
parishioners.
