Edinburg, TX - A
thick red line now runs through the word “Cancer” on an otherwise white Stripes
convenience store wall in Edinburg when it got a little bit of color Tuesday
morning as part of a creative fundraiser for cancer treatment.
Brush in hand, Jorge Hernandez, 7, of
Brownsville, had the honor to paint the first stroke over the symbol of
something he’s been fighting for the past four years. While at the Stripes on
West University Avenue and 10th Street, store employees and community members
stepped up to the wall to write tributes in red marker in memory of those
impacted by cancer.
Seven store
locations across Texas were painted in the same way and donations will be
accepted across more than 600 Stripes stores in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma.
