Kelowna, BC - There
was a somewhat surprising top dog heading into Sunday's Paws for a Cause, the
annual fundraiser in support of the Kelowna SPCA. It wasn't the branch itself,
despite the organization's dedicated workforce and legions of volunteers. Instead,
the team challenge was being led by Fortune Marketing, a relatively small
downtown firm, whose staff had gone all out in support of the cause. “Right
now, we're even ahead of the SPCA, which is in second spot,” Erin Jones of
Fortune Marketing said. “We've raised more than $2,700, and I think the SPCA
itself is at about $2,300.”The nine
Fortune Marketing employees were among about 500 people who turned out for the
annual fundraising event, held under sunny skies and near-record warm
conditions in City Park. The event was expected to raise $80,000, making it the
single-largest grassroots fundraiser for the Kelowna SPCA, which has an annual
budget of about $900,000. www.fundraising-ideas.org
