Topeka, KS - A
raffle drawing on Saturday night was decided not by a numbered ball but by
three-ton mammals.Sunda and Tembo, two
elephants at the Topeka Zoo, moseyed around their enclosure. Unbeknownst to
them, several dozen people were anxiously watching their every move. For $40, attendees at Zoobilee, the zoo’s
annual fundraiser, could buy a grocery bag of elephant treats with a number on
it. Whichever of the 20 bags was chosen last by the elephants was the winning
number. At first, Sunda and Tembo had
more interest in bamboo than paper sacks. But over the course of 16 minutes,
the Asian and African elephants ate bag after bag until just the number 17 sack
remained. www.fundraising-ideas.org
