Arcata, CA - Northcoast
Children’s Services’ “Pastels on the Plaza” has been filling Arcata’s city
center with colorfully original artwork on the first Saturday of October for
the past three decades.This creative
fundraiser has also been helping to support the local nonprofit organization,
which serves low-income pregnant women and families with children from birth
through kindergarten age. Here’s how Pastels works: Businesses, organizations,
schools and other groups “buy” a square of cement on the Arcata Plaza for $125
or $225 and artists — both experienced and new — sign up to participate.
Artists are matched with a sponsor and, on the morning of the event, they go to
work creating a temporary sidewalk gallery of art for all to see. www.fundraising-ideas.org
