Orangeville, ON,
Canada - The sights, sounds and smells of cuisine from Africa wafted out of
the Tweedsmuir Presbyterian Church on Saturday as the Orangeville GoGo Grannies
celebrated the Flavors of Africa.
Since
2009, the local chapter of GoGo Grannies has hosted this event, contributing
more than $50,000 to the plight of African grandmothers; who are the main
caregivers of orphans afflicted by HIV and AIDS. This year’s culinary event
raised approximately $1,500, which will be directly donated to the Grandmothers
to Grandmothers Campaign, a grassroots organization and initiative that was
started by the Stephen Lewis Foundation (SLF) in 2006. Across Canada, there are
more than 240 groups, who have raised $16.5 million for the cause.
