Welland, Ontario - Whenever
she can, Gloria Putman wears a lime green ribbon pinned to a t-shirt with
Bylynnda's Fight Against Lyme written on it. The ribbon is a symbol of her
daughter Bylynnda Turvey's struggle with chronic Lyme disease she's had for
more than a decade. But Putman said she was surprised and encouraged recently
to see a stranger with a green ribbon adorning her shirt too. After months of working to raise awareness
about the disease that too often goes undiagnosed and treated in Canada, she
said the word is getting out. She organized a disco party to raise funds for
Turvey, one of a few events that have been organized by people in the
community. She's planning a DiscoRama
at 8 p.m., May 31 at the Ramada Inn on Niagara St. All the proceeds from the
event will be used to help cover Turvey's medical expenses. Tickets are $10
each and they're available at the Ramada Inn, or $15 at the door. www.fundraising-ideas.org
