community does not shy away from a fight. 
Nearly 2,800 people, many wearing "Got Grit" T-shirts, filled
Grandville High School’s gym for a cheerleading invitational on Wednesday, Feb.
5, that became a cancer awareness and fundraising event for the school’s
principal, Chris VanderSlice. 
VanderSlice, 37, is being treated for leukemia.  The VanderSlice family will receive about
$17,400 through Ivanrest Church from various fundraising events, including
T-shirt and bracelet sales, raffles, a silent auction, coin collections at
schools and donations from a local restaurant. 
The district raised nearly $11,000 from pre-ordered T-shirt sales
designed by Mike Leiter, one of the high school assistant principal’s and
