Fundraiser Uses "Downton Abbey" as Inspiration

Racine, WI — Lady Mary of “Downton Abbey” would be proud. Well, maybe more so her mom or sisters. A fundraiser held Sunday in Racine for a remote health clinic in Tanzania in East Africa could not have provided more of a contrast. Guests and wait staff at the Tea for Tumaini event at the Racine Masonic Center sported costumes straight out of “Downton Abbey,” the highly successful PBS drama that centers on life at an early-20th-century British estate. They sipped tea (Tanzania, of course) in fine china and enjoyed punch and finger sandwiches served by local teens dressed as “downstairs” help.  It was a creative and fun way to bring in some money for the Mount Tumaini Health Clinic, a local project launched in 2002 by the ministry staff at Racine’s Atonement Lutheran Church and local supporters.  www.fundraising-ideas.org
