Librarian Gets Creative With Fundraising Idea

Aurora, IL — East Aurora’s Cowherd Middle School librarian Jacquelyn Tupa knew she’d have to get creative with fundraising since new regulations barred her from selling “unhealthy” snacks, which last year alone raised over $5,000 for the library.  So recently, she sent an email to Cowherd staff asking if anyone would be willing to do something crazy as a reward if enough students participated in a reading contest and fundraiser. She asked: Would any staffers be willing to dye their hair or shave their heads? Soon, Tupa had nine teachers — including herself — who were willing to dye their hair if the school could raise $1,000 for the library. If funds reached $2,000, a guidance counselor volunteered to shave her head and an English teacher volunteered to get a Cowherd tattoo on the back of his head.  www.fundraising-ideas.org
