Breakaway KIds Triathlon Fundraiser Welcomes One 91 Year Old Participant

St. Paul, MN - The “BreakAway Kids Triathlon” Fundraising event kicked off at Lake Elmo on Saturday, bringing more than 800 kids and young adults ages seven to 17 together.  Also among the race attendees was 91-year-old Bob Powers, a decorated veteran from St. Paul and the oldest triathlete in the U.S. He is also a World War II hero and has received three Purple Heart medals.   Before the race, Powers gave advice to the young triathletes  :“Exercise is fun and it gets to be that,” he said. “Just hang in there and say you are going to succeed.” The funds raised at the triathlon event will go toward preventing a camp for more than 100 kids with cancer and their siblings from closing.  www.fundraising-ideas.org
