She Laughs Fundraising Event Uses Female Comics to Support Good Cause

Lansing, MI – An ordinary evening out with the girls in 2005 set the stage for one of Lansing's most unique fundraising events:  She Laughs, a showcase for local female talent .  Lansing city councilwoman Kathie Dunbar . who had done standup before, was rattling off stories. They were all in stitches. She concluded that there are funny women in this town, and that their wit could be used to the Women's Center's advantage.  She Laughs, a night of comedy with women, debuted in January of 2006 at the Creole Gallery in Old Town. It sold out a week before the event.  This year's She Laughs is the kickoff fundraiser of the 10th anniversary of the Women's Center of Greater Lansing,  a nonprofit organization that provides services to women in the Lansing area. The organization is dedicated to helping women realize their potential, support each other, achieve economic self-sufficiency, and develop emotional and physical well being.  www.fundraising-ideas.org
